I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit

to you herewith, for the information of the Secretary

of State for the Colonies, copy of a despatch from His

Majesty's Minister at Peking, relative to the suspension

of the through train services on the Canton-Kowloon

Railway, and the presentation by him to the Chinese

Government of a claim for compensation for the loss of

earnings during the suspension of the services.

Sir E. Grey has approved Sir J. Jordan's action

in presenting the claim and the terms of his communica-

tion to the Chinese Government.
